HansRygXit Day 2

Image
Wow. It's finally here. Really our first full day on the road and forever extricated from Anchorage and its woes.  This feels like the first day of our new life.  Heading home.  After arriving in Tok about 1:30 AM on Tuesday, 29 June 2020, we got up fashionably late, walked Rosebud, fed everyone and hit the road.  The Canadian Border is 83 miles away at which point we enter the Yukon Territory.                                                                                   Tilly enjoying the view! With COVID-19 raging all around, the Yukon had pretty strict limits on those like us that are considered "essential" (moving) but not Yukon or Canadian residents.  We must stop only for gas (pay at the pump only) and driv...

HansRygXit Day 1

WOOHOO!  Our long awaited day has arrived! Us, our van, and Brutus, the neighbor's dog that was sad to see us go! Monday, 29 June, 2020 went by like a blur.  Starting at 6:30 am, and ending at 1:30 am on Tuesday, we got the van fixed, squared away the house, re-signed the sale paperwork, got notified of the successful funds transfer, traded keys and good wishes with the buyers, more goodbyes, the cat runs away just as we are ready to leave (thanks, Lance), then returns 3 hours later, and we are finally headed to Tok with Anchorage in the rear view mirror of our Roadtrek, fully illuminated and loaded to the gills.  The great adventure has begun!     Mile 0.0... 400 to go!  Winona or Bust! The drive to Tok, about 320 miles was not all that smooth.  Plenty of "frost heaves"; those pesky large lumps in the road caused by the extreme cold temperatures and heavy road use.  The road had little traffic and we were still able to make decent time.  We ...

Over the last 13 months, the primary focus of our life in Anchorage, Alaska was to sell the house and move on down the Alaska Canada Highway (ALCAN) to our new home in Winona, Minnesota.  Since reconnecting at our class reunion in September 2018, getting engaged 6 weeks later, marrying 6 months after that in June of 2019, our newlywed life together has been a hoot.   The road to selling Barb's house in Anchorage was a challenge to say the least.  Knowing our 103 year old house in our hometown was waiting for us made the whole experience worth it. Toasting our upcoming nuptuals from Slovenia!                                                                                           Only in the last coupl...
